After months of planning, the time has come for the debut of the latest ensemble to join New York’s contemporary music scene, Ensemble Moto Perpetuo (EMP). Lead by founder and Brooklyn-based composer Amir Shpilman, this exciting chamber ensemble is poised to take on the DiMenna Center for a thrilling night of music.
With a diverse mix of both established and rising musicians from the Greater NYC area, EMP has pulled no punches programming its debut performance.
Inaugural guest conductor, Nicholas DeMaison, will lead the group as they take on world-renowned composer Jason Eckardt’s challenging Trespass, featuring EMP’s pianist Natalie Tenenbaum. The concert will also feature a gripping rendition of Hrim by renowned Icelandic lecturer and sound artist Anna Thorvaldsdottir. DeMaison will be joined at the helm by Reuben Blundell for the American Premiere of Phillippe Manoury’s innovative Instants Pluriels for two adjacent ensembles.
To thank our featured composers for their contributions to the repertoire EMP will perform a collective improvisation after Eckardt, Manoury and Thorvaldsdottir composed jointly by Artistic Director Amir Shpilman and EMP Tech Director Nicholas Nelson who are both gifted composers as well.
This event will take place in Mary Flagler Cary Hall at the magnificent DiMenna Center for Classical Music, at 450 W 37th St, in Manhattan, only 6 short blocks from Penn Station.
Tickets are only $10.
Doors open at 7:00 with music commencing at 7:40. There will be a small reception following the concert at 9:15pm.
