Felix Del Tredici
A native of Montreal, Felix Del Tredici pursued his bachelor of music degree at the Schulich School of Music. He received the Orchestral Performance scholarship from McGill, as well as a full scholarship to attend the Orford Arts Academy. He attended the Ferienkurse für Neue Musik in Darmstadt, Germany, where he studied improvisation with Jorge Sanchez-Chiong and was a student of trombonist Mike Svoboda. Described by The New York Times as an “extraordinarily versatile trombonist”, Del Tredici has dedicated his career to realizing new music for the bass trombone. He is co-founder of The Underground Brass, a low brass trio (trombone, bass trombone, and tuba) dedicated to free improvisation and the performance and commissioning of new works for brass. Working closely with composer Sandeep Bhagwati, Del Tredici is a soloist of the Native Alien Project. The project is run from the Matralab at Concordia University in Montreal. Native Alien is for soloist and responsive computer environment. OMax is currently in development at IRCAM. Del Tredici is a member of Ensemble Moto Perpetuo in New York City and the Fonema Consort in Chicago. Lastly, he is a member of the New York Trombone Consort. The consort covers the entire range of the trombone family. This includes soprano, alto, tenor, bass and contrabass trombone. Del Tredici lives in New York City and studies with David Taylor.
