February 22 / TEMP Art Space
New York’s latest new-music chamber orchestra Ensemble Moto Perpetuo (EMP) will take over both floors of TEMP Art Space on February 22nd, 8pm during the debut of their winter program. Described by The New York Times as “consistently invigorating,” the first half of their two-floor program will captivate the audience with innovative works under the artistic direction of composer Amir Shpilman.
EMP musicians will float unexpectedly throughout the space while performing Svitlana Azarova’s Onderdukte Haast (2007) for brass quintet and a collection of solo works by Jason Eckardt: Multiplicities (1993), Paths of Resistance (1997), A way [tracing] (2006), Part I of Undersong, and “to be held…” (2012).
EMP will open the second half with Olivier Messiaen’s masterwork for solo horn Appel interstellaire, Per Bloland’s Wood Machine Music (2009) for chamber ensemble and electronics.
Rounding out the evening will be a Radial Improvisation by EMP, and Dance Party to follow with beats by Lisa Dowling and electronics by Nick Nelson in TEMP’s basement level.
Tickets are $10 at the door.
